Potty Training? 2 Ez!!
If you are reading this, then say goodbye to cleaning pee and poop up in your house! I learned potty training in only 3 weeks and here’s how…
Here’s 3 tips to make your potty training easy peasy lemon squeezy (pun intended).
1. Potty Schedule - My hoomans put me on a strict schedule from the very first week I was home (9 weeks). You can actually start at 8 weeks. The younger you start the better! The schedule went like this. 7 am- First meal/water and Potty, 7:30 am potty break, 8:30 am Potty break, 9:30 am, Potty Break, 11 am Potty Break, 12pm - 2nd meal/water and potty…then the cycle repeats with the last meal being dinner at 5 pm. As I get older, time in between potty breaks starts to increase. To sum it up. 30 min after a meal and then every hour after that until the next meal. Here’s the key to the schedule: I (like most small puppies) usually have to go pee 30 min after drinking water.
2. Water 3x a day - That might sound a little crazy but it was a game changer for my hoomans. It helped them track my water intake throughout the day and also keep me on my potty schedule. In the morning at breaky, I can have as much water as I want… same as lunch and dinner, but until my bladder gets stronger I can only have water during those times. Here’s a tip: always make sure your puppy is hydrated! So you might have to fill that water bowl a few times;)
3. Watch me like a hawk! - If I'm not on a potty break, play break, training break, or food break, then I am in my crate or with my hoomans being supervised. Sorry pups! No me-time until my bladder is stronger. Luckily my hoomans work from home so I can be with them, but If yours don’t, I can give you some great crate tips so it's not so bad!
Hopefully, these tips help you as they helped me. If you are a puppy pawent, trust me…your puppy won’t always wake you up at 3 am to go out! I am now 14 weeks old and can now hold my pee for the whole night. Hang in there! Also, be sure to drop a comment if you have any tips that helped you with potty training. I would love to hear it!
Bonus Tips:
My hoomans say “go empty” or “go potty” right before I pee or poop so I learn to potty on command.
Peepads just confuse me so no need to use them.
Praise me when I go, but no need for treats. If your puppy is like me, then treats will make me forget I have to go potty!
